A study in ice-blue and white: that’s the impression you’re
likely to get when you view this loft-like apartment designed by GAS (Grosu Art
Studio) and located in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. The second undeniable
impression you’re likely to get is unabashed modernism: even if nothing else
was a clear indicator, the wavy light fixture that extends over the dining table
would be a dead giveaway! Where are the ice-blue tones coming from? Trace them
to a glossy blue wall in the kitchen, to blue stools before the eat-in island,
to vivid couch cushions, bedding, and lounge chairs, all of which feature
different gradations of true blue that both brighten the apartment and cool it
at the same time. But never fear — touches of warmth are here, too, to balance
all that chic coolness.
Wide-planked wood flooring contributes a rustic feel and
unifying factor throughout. More warm color comes by way of contemporary art:
surreal portraits bring bold reds, yellows, oranges, and even purples into the
mix, while plants tucked away on high shelves and in bedside planters spice up
the pure white with cheerful green. One bed is a simple cushioned platform with
squared pillows, while the other’s all plush and velvety; more textural
interest shows itself in the design of chrome “vases” that seem to be built of
curlicues, and an inviting gray rug beneath a white lounger. While the interior
is minimalist, it’s not harsh, with floor-to-ceiling glass for great views —
and privacy, when shielded behind sheer curtains at night. A young, fresh, and
appealing look by day, and sophistication by night: that’s this loft by Grosu.
