Nutrition and Brain Health: The Role of Food and Lifestyle in Brain Wellness

Recently, I’ve been tempted to subscribe to a Web-based program that purports to improve your memory and mental acuity with daily “brain- games.” This got me brainstorming (pun intended) about ways I could incorporate sound advice about brain nutrition into my practice.

It just so happens that a few weeks ago an international conference devoted to nutrition and brain health was held in Washington, D.C. This consortium of brain researchers urged the healthcare attendees to adhere to the following seven guidelines for brain health in order to decrease their own (and their patients’) risk of Alzheimer’s and to promote the brain’s well-being.

1.  Avoid saturated fats and hydrogenated oils
Saturated fat is found primarily in dairy products and meats, and hydrogenated oil is often listed on the package’s Nutrition Facts as trans fat. Please be aware that foods with less than 0.5 grams of trans fat per serving size can actually be labeled as free of trans fat. Overdo it with food items that use this deceptive labeling rule and you’re getting a toxic load of this “Frankenfat.”
So remember that hydrogenated oil—which is commonly found in bar margarines, cake and biscuit mixes, vegetables shortenings, and fried fast foods—is a tell-tale ingredient that points to the presence of trans fats. Studies in New York, Finland, and Chicago have found that people who consume the largest amounts of these fats are 2 to 3 times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s than their low-fat counterparts.

2.  Focus on vegetables, legumes (beans, peas, and lentils), fruits, and whole grains
These fiber-, vitamin-, and mineral-rich foods are the foundation of the so-called Mediterranean diet, which has been associated with lowering the risk of problems with learning and memory. They should be the primary staples of your everyday diet.

3.  Eat a generous ounce of nuts or seeds every day
Here’s a way to eyeball this amount: An ounce is about two heaping tablespoons of something, or a very small handful. This quantity of nuts and seeds is enough to provide you with a healthy amount of vitamin E, a nutrient shown by population to lower rates of Alzheimer’s. Other healthful sources of vitamin E: papayas, avocados, tomatoes, spinach, and fortified cereals.

4.  Identify a reliable source of vitamin B12 (cobalamin)
Possible sources of B12—a nutrient not found in many foods—include fortified foods, nutritional yeast, or a supplement that provides at least the recommended daily allowance for B12, which for adults is 2.4 micrograms (mcg) per day. Cobalamin joins forces with 2 other B vitamins, folate (sometimes called B9) and pyridoxine (B6), to reduce blood levels of homocysteine, high levels of which have been linked to a decline in mental acuity.

 5. When shopping for a multiple vitamin, choose one without iron or copper
You should take an iron supplement only when your physician tells you to. Studies have linked excessive dietary levels of copper and iron to cognitive problems.

6.  Beware of ingesting high amounts of aluminum
This mineral may be in baking powder and antacids. Some researchers have linked diets high in aluminum with neurotoxic affects and an increased risk of Alzheimer’s, although these findings remain controversial.

7.  Get moving!
In your exercise regimen each week, include at least three sessions of aerobic exercise such as brisk walking. Work up to where you can make each of these bouts last for 40 minutes.

Woman Arrested For Cutting Off Boyfriend’s Penis

A 21-year old South Africa woman, Evidence Nkuna, was on Wednesday arraigned in a Meadowlands Magistrates' Court for cutting off her boyfriend's penis.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Sibusiso Chauke told newsmen that the woman caught her boyfriend with another woman on Sunday and ordered them to strip naked.

"It is alleged that the woman took out a knife and cut off her boyfriend's penis", Chauke said.

He said the woman was arrested the same day.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nkuna stood quietly in the dock throughout the proceeding on Wednesday.

The case has been transferred to the Protea Magistrates' Court.

The police said that Nkuna will now be charged with attempted murder.
Her previous charge was assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

She was, however, granted bail in the sum of R2 500 (about N45,000) and will appear in the Protea Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Nude Church Opens In U.S (See Video)

church

In a church in Ivor, Virginia, clothing is option for everyone from the pastor to the congregation. Members in this church worship in the nude taking the statement "Come as you are" very literal. People who attend Whitetail Chapel don't have to worry about finding something to wear on Sunday Services.

Pastor Allen Parker defends that God doesn't care if the believers wear clothes while they pray to Him.

"If God made us that way why can that be wrong?" says the pastor, according to The Run Down.

Members of the church also explain it has nothing to do with being sexual but being free from societal judgments. "There is no pressure to be anything other than who you are," says one of the congregants. The Whitetail Chapel is part of the Whitetail Nudist Resort..

My brother's friend who is between 17 or 18 came for a Sleep-over, I'm 25. My Parents were out and wanted me to pretty much 'babysit' them while they were away. Time went by and I wanted to go for a walk. As I got back went back to my room I saw with my own eyes my brothers friend smelling my underwear from my laundry basket I was so shocked I stubbornly cleared my throat and he turned away swiftly and looked at me, and couldn't say a word, dropped my panties and left with shame.

Later that day I sneakily went into my brother's friend's bag to see if he took anything, as I opened his bag I saw my bra and 2 of my underwear, I just got so furious but couldn't do much.

Busty Woman Who Makes Money From 'Massaging' Clients With Her Breasts

This is what I call "Boob Job". Lol !

A busty masseuse who couldn't get a job in a health spa because she was too big has now set up a successful business - massaging clients with her 48NN breasts. Kristy Love, from Atlanta, Georgia in America, spent a year training only to be turned down for a job, but now earns more than a thousand dollars a day ribbing and smothering clients with her massive boobs. "When I finished massage school, no one wanted to hire me," said Kristy, who is known as BBW Kristy Love. I kept getting asked if I'd be able to stand on my feet all day. People assumed my size would be a disadvantage. No-one ever called me back. "I decided to give massages from home and then one customer asked if I was going to keep my top on.

At first, I was indignant and said I didn't give those kinds of massages," she explains. "I was ashamed of my body because I was so big. "But when I realised there might be something in breast massages I put an advert in the local newspaper and the phone began ringing off the hook. "At first it was difficult to get over my body issues and I would only give massages with the lights off. "But the more compliments I got from my clients, the more my confidence was boosted. It has really helped me get over my low self-esteem. "But Kristy who is single isn't ashamed of her size – saying business is booming as a result. Not only does Kristy offer squashing as a service, she also practices body gliding, which involves covering herself in oil and sliding over the customer. She added: "I have to keep an eye out when I'm squashing someone. I look at their feet and their fingers to make sure there is still movement there and they're still breathing." "My weight isn't an issue at the moment, but the doctor was concerned that it might be in the future. He said I was at risk of developing high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease. But that doesn't run in my family so it doesn't bother me. I could be hit by a truck, I can't keep worrying about those things that could happen in the future. I just live each day as it comes.

"Her family is also against her vocation – but for different reasons. "They are totally against it. Obviously it goes against their moral code - they don't understand it. Also, because I'm the biggest in the family, I embarrass them. But no matter how many times they call me 'thunder thighs', I'll never be ashamed of my body.
