Immigration Must Refund Job Seekers- House Of Reps

The House of Representatives yesterday, directed the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to refund job seekers their N1,000 each charged as recruitment fee into the services.

The Reps made this query during a Joint Committee public hearing mandated by the House to investigate racketeering of job placement in the public service. At the commencement of the 2-day investigative public hearing, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal expressed concern over what he described as "one of the worst crises Nigerians face today".
"One of the worst crises we face today is the high rate of unemployment and the damage this has caused to our economic, moral and social development as a nation."

At the hearing, the Office of the Head of Civil Service (OHCS) denied granting recruitment waivers, a prerequisite for employment to the Customs to recruit 5,556 in 2011.
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) Customs Service were asked to return today having failed to provide the Committee with complete documents on the procedure of the recruitment.

 The agency was also unable to provide documentary evidence to prove that due diligence was adhered to in its recruitment exercises it carried out between 2007 and 2010.The agency was discovered to have no policy on job recruitment since 1991 when it was created.Also, in contravention of the Public Service rules, CAC advertised for employment only in 2010 with appointments based on selection.

In what seemed like buck passing, Director, Human Resources, Labaran Shuaibu, who represented the Commission said she was only two days old on the job and could not give satisfactory responses to many of the questions put to her by the Committee.
The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) also provided conflicting documents to the Committee, while failing to follow due process in its recruitment exercises .While document showed that 2,005 people were employed in 2011, another showed 2,550.
The Committee was enraged when the Secretary to the Immigrations board, Sylvanus Tapgun admitted that he does not know the bank account number where the revenue generated from the employment application forms sold for N1,000 and could not disclose the name and contact of the alleged consulting firm the Service hired to conduct its latest recruitment exercise.
The Secretary also claims to be unaware of House of Representatives' resolution urging the NIS to stop collecting fees for the employment forms, "I did not place the advertisement, it was done by my predecessor, I resume office in September".
The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) was also discovered to have flouted Public Service rules by recruiting 5,595 in 2011 without approval from the Head of Service, according to the Permanent Secretary. Career Management Service, Ezekiel Oyemomi.
Similarly, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was granted weaver to recruits 801 workers by the Federal Character Commission (FCC) but has recruited 1,146 so far.
At the point, Chairman of the Joint Committee, Andrew Uchendu said the Committee would no longer accept excuse of being new in the office as reason enough to claim ignorance of official matters.

He also noted that para military agencies were more guilty of flouting Public Service rules on recruitment.

"This Investigative Hearing is therefore long overdue and I am glad that we are finally getting to the root of this very serious anomaly.

"It is tragic that in a nation with such a high degree of unemployment, people can be so heartless as to make job-seekers pay for the opportunity of contributing their quota to the development of their father-land.

"This means that however qualified they are, unless they can cough out the bribe, they won't get the job. This situation cannot be allowed to continue. We are denying our youth the opportunity to provide our country with the right manpower.

 

16-Year-Old Nigerian/American Girl Among The 50 Smartest Teenagers In The World

Nigerian girl, Saheela Ibraheem, whose name has been buzzing in the headlines lately as a promising talent, has reserved a place among "The World's 50 Smartest Teenagers" list.

The young girl, only 16, made it to headlines earlier this year when she was accepted into Harvard University, making her one of the youngest students ever to attend that school.

Known as polite and humble, the Muslim prodigy said that her Nigerian parents, totally supportive of the young scholar, sometimes taught her subjects the schools didn't offer. Saheela, who dons the Islamic veil, or hijab, plays softball, soccer, and the trombone.

She also sings in the school choir and serves as president of the school's investment club. The promising girl plans to major in either neurobiology or neuroscience, and hopes to become a scientist in order to study how the brain works.

 Despite her activities, she said her number one priority was her family. "I try my best in everything I do," Saheela said, confirming that there is nothing special about her brain. "Anyone who's motivated can work wonders."

USING STONEWORK TO TIE TOGETHER A SANTA BARBARA HOME AND GARDEN

When these clients hired Grace Design Associates for their garden layout, they had just built a home and studio on Pedregosa Street in Santa Barbara, CA. But, true to its name pedregosa meaning “rocky” in Spanish the site was replete with sandstone unearthed during construction, everything from boulders to a large wall and curbs. The clients wanted all stone to be integrated into the landscape and any new stonework made to blend with the old. They needed to tie the new construction together with already existing historical homes in the neighborhood, some dating from the 1800s. As if those parameters weren’t challenging enough, the clients  recent Iowa transplants also wanted a “little bit of home” and a prairie feel about the grounds.



Grace went to work, using boulders and terracing to make outdoor “rooms” for different uses. A stone amphitheater  for proposed musical/social evenings  and fire pit are now central gathering places; fixed seating on one side allows for the other side to be used as anything from additional “stage” area to a spot to lay out sleeping bags. Near the fire pit is a cedar hot tub, close enough for enjoyment of the flames but distant enough to provide solitude. Plantings are simple, with lots of native grasses that not only conserve water, but are low-maintenance. Best of all, as the designers put it, “Every last piece of stone was used on site…and some were then ‘broken down’ to differing degrees to suggest a long history of site occupation.” Thus, “The garden connects the house to the site, the neighborhood, and the larger setting seamlessly.”









 

A Dream Pool to Match a Dream Home: Edgewater Estate

 

What do you do once you’ve built your dream house? Sometimes, you build a dream pool to match it. That’s what these clients of Caviness Landscape Design did. These clients had an advantage: they had had a pool before and definitely know what they did and didn’t want. As the designer explains, “The client wanted to be able to see the waterfall from his home office window.” The customer also wanted specific details as well: stone steps to the patio area; a 3-foot waterfall with a swim-up bench; a 9 x 17-foot wide cascading fall; and 18-inch deep play area under the waterfall. Finally, the family wanted a spa that could seat 22 people, and a glass rock fire pit with bench seating.




What results is an oblong pool with rounded edges enclosed in colorful flagstone. Pool, spa, and all waterfalls are backlit, as are clustered pines behind the larger waterfall and other trees that frame the space. The fire pit, up one level from the main poolside area, has curved stone seating more than ample for a crowd; another level of stone entirely reachable through an arched doorway from the house  holds more space for lounging. Finally, when the client wanted the flagstone around the pool to match the travertine at the back of the house, Caviness obliged by cutting the flagstone into squares and rectangles. Edgewater Estates is a private, inviting retreat now…with a great view from the home office .




 

‘Wombless’ Wife Of General Overseer Delivers Miracle Baby In United States

I have been off blogger for over three months and i missed every month of it. In the course if my absence many things have happened which i will eventually blog about,i missed friends and my communities and am just excited to be back. Eight years after, wife of the General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries, Port-Harcourt Rivers State, Evangelist (Dr) Nkechi Chinyere, has finally given birth to a bouncing baby girl.

Her conception and delivery have been described as miraculous by medical experts after she was diagnosed to be without a womb few years ago.

The baby arrived on Tuesday July, 23 around 10:10am in far -away Dallas in the United States of America,weighing 10 LBS and recorded as the heaviest child of the day in the hospital.

The baby is due in Nigeria anytime from now ahead of her dedication at the church’s headquarters on October 27.

The dedication will coincide with the Church’s 7th anniversary and Chinyere’s 40th birthday celebration.

Speaking through the Church’s Media Director, Mr. Gogo-Oguta Isaiah, OPM’s general overseer, Apostle (Dr) Chibuzor Chinyere, declared himself the happiest man on earth.

He expressed delight for surviving the insults of his elder sister who taunted him after discovering his wife’s medical status.

Two years after marriage without conception, Chinyere recalled his wife became worried, making him to direct his elder sister to accompany her to an undisclosed hospital in Port Harcourt GRA for examination.

She was pronounced without womb and declared incapable of conception, let alone delivery of baby, Chinyere remembered.

Armed with the vital information, he said his elder sister resorted to smear his wife’s name, even in the Church, taunting her as a man.

Chinyere said: “Today, Doctor Jesus has remembered me and my wife and also rolled away the shame and forever silenced our adversaries.”

The Church’s founder thanked God for demonstrating His power and sovereignty over the ministry once again.

Recounting the success story of the Church, he said only God could have helped a church that is just seven to establish 82 branches within and outside Nigeria with over 300,000 members.

He attributed the giant strides to God, his simplicity and willingness to follow divine leading.

CZECH WOMAN GIVES BIRTH TO COUNTRY’S FIRST QUINTUPLETS

A 23-year-old woman has given birth to quintuplets in the Czech Republic, officials say, a first for the country.
Alexandra Kinova had four boys and a girl by caesarean section on Sunday, they say.
The births took place "without any complications", according to doctors at Prague's Institute for the Care of Mother and Child.
The mother and babies were placed in an intensive care unit but are believed to be in a good condition.
The Czech Republic's first quintuplets, who were conceived naturally without IVF, have a 95% chance of growing up healthy, the Associated Press quoted Zbynek Stranak, chief doctor at the neonatal section of the institute, as saying.
The boys' names are reportedly Deniel, Michael, Alex and Martin, while the girl is called Terezka. Continue reading and photos below




Their mother, who is from the town of Milovice, about 20km (12 miles) north-east of the capital, Prague, already had one son.
She originally believed she was pregnant with twins, but in March doctors upped it to four - and then five in April.
The father of the quintuplets was present at the delivery despite his train being delayed, according to the newspaper Ceske Noviny.
"I was crying all the way since I feared I would not manage it," he said.
