It's Just An Empty Threat- ASUU Replies FG

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has replied the federal government over its threat to sack university lecturers if they fail to call off its ongoing strike.

According to the striking lecturers, the threat would not only fail but will worsen the situation, hence "another long path to making the strike linger more than necessary."

The ASUU National Treasurer, Dr. Ademola Aremu, while responding to the government's directive, said the threat does not hold waters as it has confirmed the fears that the federal government cannot be trusted.

He said, "With the latest action, the federal government has shown that they are not committed to all they have been saying. We are saying that since we agreed at the meeting that the sum of 200 billion naira is for 2012 and 2013 revitalisation, the federal government should deposit same in the Central Bank of Nigeria. We are already in November and December is around the corner. If they don't do that now, when do they want to do it? We are saying that the non-victimization clause should be included as agreed while the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement should be included as agreed with the presidents".

"It is a pity if the federal government is not willing to perfect the resolutions reached with the union. This is why we find it difficult to trust our leaders by their words. How can someone be threatening to sack lecturers when universities are already short-staffed by almost 60,000. We are not in the military era. The military tried it and failed. This one will fail again.

"They can re-open the school. ASUU did not shutdown the universities. It was the management of the schools that ordered the students to go back home."

ASUU Set To Meet With President Jonathan Tomorrow As Hopes For A Call Off Gets Underway

Hopes are high within the ranks of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, as the union is set for a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan tomorrow that the two parties will arrive at a mutually acceptable solution to the four months old strike which has paralysed the nation's university education.

The union however expects the solution to be within the context of the implementation of the 2009 agreement, the 2012 MOU and the recommendations of the Needs Assessment Report, warning that any proposal by the Government would be based on a clear acceptance of a framework for the implementation of the 2009 agreement.

The union stated clearly that any imposition will not present a solution to the current crisis.

 In a statement by Dr. Uzochukwu Onyebinama, Chairperson ASUU, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia state, ASUU urged the President "to be guided by the principle of honouring agreements in the interest of justice and industrial harmony in the country".

 "As the National leadership of our union, the Academic Staff Union of Universities meet with his Excellency, President Goodluck Jonathan, tomorrow 4th November 2013 [tomorrow], we hope that the meeting will be a dialogue that will lead to a mutually acceptable fair and far reaching solution within the context of the implementation of the 2009 agreement, the 2012 MOU and the recommendations of the Needs Assessment Report.

 "Any proposal by government should be based on a clear acceptance of a framework for the implementation of the 2009 agreement.

Any imposition will not present a solution to the current crisis. "We therefore call on the President and Commander- in- chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to be guided by the principle of honouring agreements in the interest of justice and industrial harmony in the country", the statement.

Happy 100 Days ASUU; ASUU Goes International As French Journalist Writes An Article On The Ongoing Strike (MUST READ)

First of all, I want to wish ASUU a hearty congratulations on clocking #100days. This is by no means a small feat.

Students who ordinarily should be preparing for the new session haven't even completed the existing one before ASUU reared it's ugly head.

On ASUU's part, it is No Retreat, No Surrender, while on the Federal Government's part, it is a case of It's Either My Way, Or The Highway.

When two elephants fight, the grass surely suffers.

To show how international ASUU has gone, it featured on Al Jazeera's #AJStream some weeks ago, now it has even gone French, as some French journalist covered the news.

This strike has to be called off for the purpose of the students. This is totally unfair and totally insensitive to the plights of the future leaders of tomorrow.

It is becoming embarrassing that in this time and age, our education system is in total collapse.

Early this morning, I posted a story about how no Nigerian university made the top 400 in World University rankings.

Whereas, three South African universities made the list. Thought we were Giants of Africa.

Well I featured in this article to give my candid view about the ongoing ASUU strike and I will be the happiest man in Nigeria if this strike is called off in the interest of what's left of our education sector.

21 YEAR-OLD WOMAN, RICKESHA BURNS, ACCUSED OF SHOVING VIBRATOR INTO 2-YEAR-OLD SON'S ANUS

When i came across this news i was really upset and i decided to share it. it may be a offensive to many readers but bear with me because i actually believe that Parenthood is not for everybody and as such we should be informed and please be on the look out for abusive kids and report same immediately to the local authorities

The Phoenix woman accused of shoving a vibrator into her 2-year-old son's anus has pleaded not guilty to charges in the case. The vibrator had to be surgically removed. 

Rickesha Burns, 21, called police almost two weeks ago, reporting that her son was bleeding from his anus but said she didn't know exactly what happened.

She said she was at a park with her son that day, March 24, and while she was "looking at a text message for about 10 seconds," a boy she didn't know at the park did "something" to her son, according to court documents obtained by New Times.

"She said she does not know what he did but is sure he did something," a probable-cause statement says.

The boy was brought to Phoenix Children's Hospital, and doctors discovered that he had numerous bruises around his anus, a "hanger-type" bruise on his hip, and yet another bruise on his neck.

Doctors also found an object lodged in his rectum, which appears to be "a vibrator or some other sex toy."

Police interviewed Burns, who still claimed that a teenage boy at a park did it, even though she "believes it is her vibrator," and police found the boy's blood on her shirt, according to court documents.

A Phoenix police spokesman said there was zero evidence that the boy was assaulted at the park.

Burns told police that she "worked hard to get her son back and would not do anything like this to hurt her son."

Indeed, court records show that Burns was investigated for child abuse in 2011, but it doesn't appear that criminal charges were ever filed. State records don't show any criminal history for Burns, other than a couple of misdemeanor cases related to driving without the proper documentation.

Burns' son needed to have surgery to get the vibrator removed, according to court documents. Police said the injuries around the boy's anus appear to be caused by a hanger, or similar object, being used in an attempt to get the vibrator out.

At her arraignment today, Burns pleaded not guilty to the charges against her, including sexual conduct with a minor and child abuse. A judge had previously ordered that Burns be held without bond.

Her next court date is scheduled for May 23.

WORKER QUITS BY BAKING A CAKE AND WRITING RESIGNATION LETTER IN ICING (LET'S HOPE HE ISN’T MADE TO EAT HIS WORDS!)

A Border Agency employee stunned his bosses with bizarre resignation letter iced on to a cake.

Chris Holmes penned his resignation letter to the UK Border Agency at Stansted Airport on a homemade cake.

 Chris Holmes, 31, who worked at Stansted Airport, tweeted a picture of the note to resign from his job and pursue his dream to run a bakery business.

Mr Homes said: 'I handed in the cake in person to the duty manager. I think he was pleasantly surprised.

'It was a passion cake - a carrot cake made with coconut, pecans, sultanas and orange buttercream.

'The lettering was a bit tricky because there were so many words and was quite fiddly.

The resignation seemed like the natural choice for a cakemaker with a whimsical sense of humour.

'I thought it was a good natured resignation and hopefully left a nice taste in their mouths.

'I’d been planning it for six-months but kept it to myself because I wasn’t sure when I would be leaving.'

'I’d been working with the UK Border Agency for around seven years and set up the cake business in July 2010.

'I decided that my passion lies with food and wanted to spend more time at home with my son Ben.'

The former civil servant stunned employees by adding a touching message to the confectionery.

He wrote: ‘Having recently become a father I now realise how precious life is and how important it is to spend my time doing something that makes me and other people happy.

‘For that reason I hereby give notice of my resignation, in order that I may devote my time and energy to my family, and to my cake business which has grown steadily over the past few years.

 

I wish the organisation and my colleagues the best for the future .

’The picture of the ‘resignation cake’ came to light when it was tweeted by his relative Stuart Jackson.

He tweeted: 'So, my brother-in-law has resigned from his 9-to-5 job in spectacular fashion. Jerry Maguire meets Masterchef.'

THE LEAF INSECTS !!!

Leaf insects use camouflage to take on the appearance of a leaf. They do this so accurately that predators often aren’t able to distinguish them from real leaves. In some species the edge of the leaf insect’s body even has the appearance of bite marks. To further confuse predators, when the leaf insect walks, it rocks back and forth, to mimic a real leaf being blown by the wind.

KIDS AND THE RESPECT CULLTURE

An old woman is on the floor with a bag next to her. She asks the passing school girls for any amount of cash, but the girl refuses with a middle finger. Her friends clearly don’t notice the situation, let alone care about it. The helpless woman just looks at her in desperate pain and shock as the little girl just smirks at her.

This picture breaks my heart. The senile woman is on the floor in beautiful, cultural garments, but asks for a mere donation. The girl in modern school clothing gives her a thoughtless and ignorant “f### you.”

I don’t know where this picture was taken, but it depicts what our future has become: children disrespecting elders like they were vermin killed flat on the road. I’ve seen this in many places. Little kids on their cell phones undermining what their parents have to say, little kids cussing like there’s no tomorrow, little kids worrying about their looks rather than their family. It’s everywhere; culture and respect are both dying. It’s because of the influences that these kids can easily access: media, drugs, adultery. Our world is losing grasp of the future, and we can only watch as the next generation become total monsters.
